Scenario
Claire Beauchamp Randall, a World War II nurse, is mysteriously transported back in time to Scotland in 1743. There she meets a Highland warrior and is drawn into an epic rebellion. Moore (the series’ creator), his team decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English.
This maintained the first-person narrative, reflecting Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic
The idea came from producer David Brown, who said he saw something similar in the foreign alternative film Skin Deep (1998), starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart. In some episodes, characters say “okay.” An American term that only came into use in the 19th century. The opening theme song changes from season to season to reflect what is happening in the story.
Season 3 adds tribal drums, as most of the season is set in the West Indies
In the first half of the second season (which takes place in France), some of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of the second season (mostly about preparing for war), a militaristic drum roll is added to the opening theme. In season 4, bluegrass fiddle and banjo are added, and some of the lyrics are sung in a southern accent, as the majority of the season takes place in America.

Skye Boat Song (uncredited) is a traditional Scottish tune with lyrics by Sir Harold Bolton. New text by Robert Louis Stevenson. Having never read the Outlander books, I didn’t really know what to expect.
I watched the entire series in one go and loved it!
I initially thought this series was only for women, but I was completely wrong. This series has something for everyone and it has become one of my favorite series, so I’m glad I finally gave it a chance!
